Comments to “Dirty Little Secret - Universal Healthcare? Social Security?”

  1. Andrew Says:
yeah, social programs come from taxes and military funding is bought by magical pixies from Mars who live on dreams and starlight. I'd prefer to get an education in which I'd be SMARTER afterwards.
  2. MAURA Says:
i tell you what made me mad was when President Clinton allowed a law to pass that allows Congress to borrow from the equity of the social security collected thru taxes. I think what really isn't being said is this: the snowball is growing slowly and getting bigger. We manipulate numbers on purpose, we borrow more than we can afford, and we are too lazy to care in general. I'm 26 and scared to death when I will be 60.
  3. Orvin Says:
(cont)Think of it like this: Let's say you are French and use Euros, I am Japanese and use Yen. Let's also say there is no conversion between the two, and you can not convert one to the other. I do not have the responsibility to pay your rent. Even if I wanted to, I can not pay your French rent in Yen for you, because the French have no use for Yen. That is how the Government works. Get it?
  4. WEKESA Says:
ongy:"God forbid that one day some of that tax money may actually get spent on American taxpayers, so we can enjoy universal health care" Ignorance is bliss...isn't it? Military funding comes from one bank account, social programs come from a whole other pot of money. They can not take the military money and spend it on your health. It just does not work that way. Get an education, and maybe you will stop making posts that display your ignorance about how Government works.
  5. Wyman Says:
Our government spends trillions of tax dollars for military invasions and maintaining over 700 military bases all over the world. But, God forbid that one day some of that tax money may actually get spent on American taxpayers, so we can enjoy universal health care. No, I suppose that would be too much to ask for. So in the meantime, the politicians will continue to lecture us about the virtues of private health care, while they enjoy life-time public health care funded by our tax dollars.
  6. Spencer Says:
What do you mean? Is it bad to want to keep the fruits of your labor? Americans are already very charitable people. They give alot of money, check up on how much the people give, especially during emergencies (Katrina etc). And I think for your other comment, "where is government borrowing from", would probably be from the federal reserve, countries (china) and other sources taxed from the people. Things seem to be spiraling out of control. I think people are stressed and say such comments.
  7. SANDHYA Says:
The funny thing is you seem to have completely missed the point of what he is saying. He's telling us that it is entitlement programs like Medicare (read: socialized medicine) which are the cause of the impending financial crisis. He's making a very strong argument AGAINST universal health care.
  8. ABDUL-QADIR Says:
also prettielisa mate my wife had to have open heart surgery a few years back.(replacing a heart valve)it took here only 3 days to get into hospital here in Canada and she was done for FREE! unlike in the usa where it would have cost her over $50,000. yes that is RIGHT! i looked it up on the net! and she would have had to wait a lot longer then 3 days!so it kind of blows your commit into the water!
  9. ELFRIDA Says:
sadly unnst mate your right.. most americans dont know bum from elbow..
  10. Fonzell Says:
there are some idiots I know who say,... "I don't want to pay for someone else's health problems". I tell you, the American media has brainwashed so many fools.
  11. Aviva Says:
the government is borrowing to pay for medicare? where are they borrowing from? This is so sad. Anywhere you turn, America seems to be crumbling like an Oreo cookie. Healthcare, social security, value of dollar, price of fuel, unfortunate weather, mortgages, job loss, no more manufacturing, Outsourcing, illigal immigration, uninsured citizens, cost of drugs, etc. What the hell is happening here?
  12. Bainbridge Says:
sorry prettieslisa mate.. you claim that you have the best hospitals in the world? so how come a few weeks ago a woman was left waiting for over 24 hours in a "top" new york hospital and died before she was seens by a doctor? to kmake things even worse she was dEAd for over 2 hours before any one came to see if she was ok! people where walking past her body slumped on the floor and NOTHING was doe! you need a national health service and FAST!richest country in the world? HA!
  13. AZIBO Says:
RON PAUL IS A GAY GAY
  14. Eadbert Says:
that was awesome to know i knew things were bad, but man! we need help quick
  15. Misti Says:
    I agree.
  16. Seireadan Says:
    uh oh.....
  17. Coyle Says:
most of the countries that have nationalized medicine and are not bankcrupt do not have the great medicine/hospitals of the USA... it's a trade... nationalizing medicine will only worsen the economy (it's very expensive and never sufficient for everybody) AND will decrease the quality of medical care
  18. Adali Says:
haps:"Does that mean that you don't want to hear the idea?" Don't go confusing the issue with facts. God forbid that you give a viable alternative to scrapping the whole system and turning it over to the Government. They want to rebuild the USSR here, and anything else is not accptable.
  19. Excalibur Says:
nikt:"The enemy is avarice and greed" The problem is that even if you have a totally socialist Government, you never can get rid of greed. It is within our nature to want. So when you have both together fighting one another, you have corruption of your utopian ideal of society. The problem with socialism is that we live ina real world and a country that was built on individualism and sweat equity, not hand outs and dependency.
  20. Rori Says:
I love America...but I have been slowly shifting much of my money to over seas markets and into Roth accounts. Taxes have to go up in the future, so pay them now and never again on your money. The change in currency values alone have made over seas investments great and will continue to preserve the value of money.
  21. MARIAN Says:
Does that mean that you don't want to hear the idea? I wasn't kidding. Healthcare is too important. We shouldn't overlook any possibilities.
  22. NOCHTLI Says:
If you think this is democracy you are wrong. It is a puppet government controlled by profit motivated businesses. We are given the illusion we are free when we are not. Big Corporations control the money and economy which in turn control what kind of work we do which determines our quality if life. It is all connected. If we have the to be happy and to live then we need to fight and defend those right. The enemy is avarice and greed not the terrorists or socialism.
  23. EDET Says:
This is not a card game here, we are talking about people's lives being decided by pure profit motive. If we do nothing it will just get worse. Healthcare will never become a non-issue as long as a for-profit system exists and pharmaceuticals sold to us like fast-food.
  24. Kyrenia Says:
Niktrek, I see that you are concerned about people's health. Me too. If I were to tell you how we could make healthcare affordable for everyone without the interference of big business or government, would you be interested? If we play our cards right, healthcare will eventually become a non-issue, like laundry, haircuts, and shoes.
  25. BRICRIU Says:
When the you let private business control the Government like it does, all it leads to is more poverty and economic hardship. We can still be healthy, happy and free with more social services. Look at Canada, England and Europe those people know what is to care about the their fellow human being. I would be happy to remain in this country if we at least had Universal Not-for-Profit health care for everyone in this country and not the private corporations letting us die for their profit.
